Until There Are Bombs
This powerful poem was written by a friend who said it was inspired by my introductory Urgency post. —I hope that it is shared widely.
Until There Are Bombs
By: Lady Advokit
We are at war
Not just with other countries
But with ourselves
We have been at war since the 1850s
The divide never ended
After the Civil War, we politely agreed to disagree
Until we didn’t
And when the fire was reignited with niche news
The divide became hotter
Now, after a generation of separatist news, we no longer politely disagree
We are sequestered in our corners
The flame of discord spreading
And here we are with
rights removed
people removed
voting removed
aid removed
laws removed
and in their place
added inflation
added bigotry
added incompetence
added coups
added violence
Americans are in pain
But we are still ordering our favorite coffees
Going to PTA meetings
Buying concert tickets
All the while, shaking our heads
About what has become of this country
Why aren’t we protesting every day?
Why aren’t we striking?
Why aren’t we sitting in?
Because we can grab moments of normalcy
That feel safe and assuring
While the constitution figuratively burns
Unconsciously waiting
Until bombs hit our homes
So, for now, we will take one latte grande, please

Love this poem. It's very powerful and hearing the poet say it out loud is even more impactful. I hope all if you get the opportunity to hear her that one day
